4 Quick Tips for Keylogging, Your Credit and Identity Theft

keylogging

Many of us receive junk mail offers for credit cards or credit, my advice is don’t open that email. Most junk mail offers have black malware called “Keylogging” attached to it. Keylogging  is the action of recording (logging) the keys struck on a keyboard, typically covertly, so that the person using the keyboard is unaware that their actions are being monitored by a thief. Recently, a client’s bank account was altered, I asked my client if she had opened any credit junk mail offers, her reply was yes. I recommended four things:

  1. Stop using online banking and go physically into a bank. It’s a win situation if you go physically to a bank, not only will you have personal service, you will also build a banking relationship.

2.     I also suggested to stop opening email credit offers and never contact them via phone, this is the easiest way for a criminal to steal your identity. Phishing email delivers keylogger malware

For example: A past client of mine received a false CITI Cards email stating they have a great interest rate offer, she called the number that was posted in the email. Later, my client discovered it was not a CITI Cards representative but an impersonator who took her application over the phone and obtained all her identity information. She called back CITI Cards, there was no representative by that name or number and also they did not have that type of credit card offer

3. Purchase good anti-malware software

4. Always have credit monitoring
